Wean off prednisone after 5 day use?

i was prescribed prednisone (40 mg a day) for only 5 days because of a allergic reaction to penicillin. my doc said i could actually just stop taking it as soon as the rashes cleared up, he said probably 3 days or so. i have been reading a lot on the internet about needing to wean off prednisone due to nasty side effects. is only 5 days(or less) of prednisone warranted a weaning process? my doc never said a thing about weaning, i am uming since i only will be taking it for a short period of time. anyone ever take predinsone? or knows someone who has? did you have to wean off of it if you were on it for a short period? thanks
