What color lamp should I get for my living room?

Hi guys, I have a long rectangular shaped living room. Both couches are suede, one red the other sand. My curtains are black. From both couches you can see wall length bookshelves which I painted red (a little brighter than the couch unfortunately) I want a really nice lamp for the corner between the two couches. It would be set against the black curtains. Should it be black or red? Or would red be too much? Thank you!!!!
